Growing up on ski mountains in the late 80's and 90's was an education in innovation. While I was just a run-of-the-mill skier, I had friends who quickly jumped on the snowboard bandwagon. I also had friends who did telemark skiing, which basically looks like down hill cross-country skiing. There was also the short run of the incredible ridiculous-looking foot skis that were about two feet long.

Long story short, the time era just seemed perfectly suited for trend after trend in the industry. It even came to a point where I wondered what ideas were left?

Well, that was a pretty stupid thought by me, considering this world will never run out of ideas.

One of the newer fads is now available at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry. The mountain resort is offering lessons and rentals for SNO-GO ski bikes.

Ski bikes are exactly what they sounds like. Take a bike frame and add three skis to the bottom, and you have a ski bike. The relatively new fad is showing up at resorts across the country, including Sunday RIver.

SNO-GO claims the ski bike is very easy to pick up, especially if you have prior ski or riding experience. They even have a wonderful tutorial video to truly give any interested party an idea of what they're all about.

The physics are quite simple. It uses a lot of the same techniques of both cycling and skiing. Balance and coordination seem to be the most important factors.

It also looks super fun. As someone who loves biking and skiing, this is something I need to try. The excitement of skiing with the stability and style of biking could bring a new element of excitement and wonder to any weekend warrior.

The good news for all you who would like to try before you buy, Sunday River is ready for you to rent out the bike and take a lesson. The ski bikes are available daily, along with an introductory course before you get on your way.

Book your next adventure today. I know I'm ready. In the meantime, check out these folks absolutely shred the snow on the SNO-GO.
