I love Indian food—all of it—the spice, the mango drinks, the curry—but I have never attempted making it. That might change after a stop at Masala Hahal on Main Street in South Portland, Maine.

The Portland Press Herald did an article on Masala Hahal in 2008 when it first opened. Mainers have a well-earned reputation for not liking spice. I'd say that may be changing since this Indian grocery store packed with spice has been open for nearly 20 years.

I recently saw that someone had these Lay's potato chips, and I knew I had to try them. They are sold at Masala Hahal. Heck, everything is sold at Masala Hahal - exclusively Indian. Mamta Punjabi, the owner told the Press Herald back in 2008 that she was worried about a store that only sold Indian grocery items. She was worried it wouldn't be successful, but it has been very positive. I told a friend of mine who is a much more adventurous cook than me about it and he's very excited. And he's excited about these chips!
