Would You Live in a 3D-Printed Maine House?
Real talk and real question, would you live in a 3D-printed house? Like, one made from wood waste? It would be printed layer by layer from a massive printer.
Well, this is exactly what’s happening in Maine right now according to News Center Maine. The geniuses at the University of Maine are partnering with Community Action Agency, Penquis to build 9 fully 3D printed homes. And this isn’t just a neat experiment, it’s real life, livable homes and a possibly solution to the intense housing crisis taking placed all over the state.
Honestly? I am totally into it!
Housing in Maine right now is rough because prices are up labors down and construction is unable to keep pup with demand.
Would You Live in a House That Was Printed?
The 3D homes are giving you the ability to save money, build faster, and it’s made from recyclable materials. How can you get any better than that?
UMaine has already tested one of the prototypes and it has successfully survived three Maine winters. If you’ve been through just one February here in Maine, you know that’s saying something.

What truly is selling folks is that they are not just printed homes for us to look at and say “that's cool.” they are creating a whole neighborhood. It’s like magic and they want to build in Brewer and Orono, preferably by next year.
It may not be your classic colonial or cape style homes with a white picket fence, but if it’s affordable, sustainable, and survives Maine winters, you may just have hit the housing jackpot.
And don’t forget the best part on telling your friends, “Yeah so my house was printed” just sounds baller.
