This was definitely one of the most interesting experiences I've had so far in Portland!

I hadn't heard of floating as a relaxation method until very recently. When I learned that there was a place in Portland, I just had to try it out!

Float Harder, located on Washington Ave. in Portland, is a great place to experience floating for the first time. They have several private float rooms, each with a pod that contains 500 gallons of water and a ton of salt, which allows you to get in and effortlessly float to the top. Once you close the pod, you can choose to have lights on (your choice of color), or pitch dark. You can also choose from a variety of soothing music to listen to...you can also use your own music, or just float in silence.

After using the lights and some music for a bit, I chose to float in complete darkness and silence. It was very calming and surreal. I found myself to be so relaxed that I was in that stage somewhere between being awake and asleep.

Not only did it relax my body, it also relaxed my mind. Lately, most of my day involves me looking at a screen, constantly dealing with an onslaught of emails, texts, and other messages and notifications. But for 90 minutes, I was able to experience the feeling of weightlessness, without a care in the world.

Although I only recently learned about floating, apparently it's been a thing for many years. The first float tank was developed back in 1954. Since then, there have been several books written about it, and many people do it regularly, including many athletes.

I would highly recommend that you give it a shot! Click below for more details on Float Harder:
