Why Lewiston’s Planet Fitness in Maine Still Isn’t Open (Yet)

Those of us who reside in Lewiston got very excited when it was initially announced around 8 months ago that a Planet Fitness would open nearby! And it has.

It’s located in the Shaw’s Plaza on East Avenue. The purple and yellow sign is up, the equipment is installed, however, the doors have not yet opened. You’ve probably driven by and wondered, “What’s going on? Why isn’t it open yet?”  

First, this isn’t Planet Fitness first debut in Lewiston. Did you know that a location on 40 East Avenue operated then closed in 2013? Yep! 

So… Why Isn’t Planet Fitness in Lewiston Open Yet?

Since then, the brand has been cautious to re-enter Lewiston, according to the Sun Journal. 

There isn’t an official statement put out by the company but there is a lot of buzz online on why there is a delay. Gossip from community Facebook pages are hinting that it could be a staffing or licensing issue.

Another online theory is permit delays.  But, for now, this is just a theory. 

The speculation is all alleged at this point. But given the machines are in and buzz is real, we hope to expect an announcement sooner rather then later.

It would be so much more officiant for those of us in the neighborhood to work out at the East Avenue location rather then battle the traffic on the bridge to Auburn.
