To the driver who was camping out in the left lane on the Maine Turnpike, I have a question for you. Do you know that that's illegal?

There's a law on the books in Maine that you should know about if you want to keep camping in the left lane for whatever reason. Here's what it says in layman's terms, rather than the official and sometimes confusing Maine statutes, thanks to the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein. They mean business:

Maine law clearly states that on any limited-access road, with a speed limit of 65 mph or higher, such as the Maine Turnpike or I-295, drivers must stay in the right lane unless they're actively passing another vehicle. Once they pass, they must return to the right lane.

I watched you take off like a bat out of hell in the left lane, and you weren't passing anyone. The left lane doesn't have its own speed limit, and it isn't for travel. It's for passing only, and you were treating it like a race track.

I know that others reading this are going to say something along the lines of "mind your own business" or "why do you care?" You may be thinking that yourself. It's just a friendly reminder of something that is the law and something that you may not know.
