Latest Maine Phone Scam Has Individuals Posing as Police Officers
One thing the pandemic hasn't slowed down is phone scams. Sometimes it seems like there's a new one every week. People claiming a friend or family member is in trouble and needs money, someone claiming you have a fine and pending court date and need your information to avoid jail, people posing as The IRS...the list goes on and on.
The most recent scam has been hitting the Paris, Maine area. The Paris Police Department took to Facebook and reported multiple reports of people posing as a police officer. Apparently, they're telling people that they have an arrest warrant. They're even providing a badge number to add credibility to their claim.
Paris PD also indicated that the fake phone "cop" has a foreign accent, which none of the current Paris police officers have.
If you receive one of these calls DO NOT give any personal information. Simply hang up.
Paris PD did say that if you think you do have a warrant they would be more than happy to look into that for you.
