Lady Gaga’s Sixth Album: Here’s Everything We Know So Far
Is Mother Monster, a.k.a. Lady Gaga, prepared to unleash her siren song for a sixth time? It certainly seems so!
Gaga, who struck gold last year with the soundtrack to A Star Is Born (you might have heard of it...), has been splitting the stage with co-star Bradley Cooper in recent months, making particular waves with a duet at the 2019 Oscars. But the hit-maker hasn't gone solo in nearly three years — since the release of 2016's country-hued Joanne — and fans are hungry for #LG6, the follow-up to the LP that included "Perfect Illusion" and "Million Reasons."
So, when Gaga's next project finally comes into focus, will it follow Joanne's experimental lead, and will it extend the performer's journey as a country-tinged singer-songwriter? Could #LP6 be a return to her more heavy-hitting, leather-studded dancefloor pop days, when songs like "Bad Romance" and "Love Game" ruled radio waves?
So far, Gaga's been pretty tight-lipped and has released very few details about her next release. Still, by reading between the lines, we've uncovered some juicy bits you can definitely sink your teeth into. Check out everything we know about Lady Gaga's sixth studio album, below.
Gaga's been writing #LG6 for at least two years:
Gaga told Entertainment Weekly in an August 2017 interview that she'd already been hard at work in the studio.
“I’ve started writing,” she said. “I have a lot of ideas and a lot of things I want to create, so you’ll see in a bit. I need some time to create.”
Fans who've caught Gaga at her Las Vegas residency Enigma might have heard a bit already:
“[I'm not saying] I won’t do songs here or there that I can call during the show,” Gaga added to EW. “But this show’s actually extremely complex and complicated...So the set list might change a little bit, but mostly you’re coming to see a piece that we’ve created for you.”
Gaga's got one hell of a team behind the project:
Sophie confirmed in Summer 2018 that she worked with Gaga on upcoming tracks, sharing, "Whatever, you know. I'm working on a lot of different things. If it comes out, that's cool."
Billboard also reported that Boys Noize may have been working with Gaga on the tunes to come. And, to round out the potential #LG6 team, tweets issued by BloodPop and “Shallow” co-writer Anthony Rossomando have fans convinced they, too, are sharing studio time with Gaga.
And Gaga hasn't just been focused on her sound — naturally, she's paying close attention to the evolution of her visuals, too.
Billboard also reported in July 2018 that Gaga may have been getting down to business with fashion director Nicola Formichetti, who was behind the iconic looks in Gaga's "Bad Romance" and "Telephone," in addition to renowned photographers Inez and Vinoodh.
One hip-hop standout has heard #LG6 and says it's "amazing":
CaupcakKe tweeted in mid-March that she's already listened to Mother Monster's next collection of tracks, sending some fans into a tailspin.
CupcakKe added that she contributed to #LG6 — whether or not her contributions make the cut remains to be seen.
#LG6 Is no sequel:
Whether Gaga borrows from previous themes or sounds, don't expect her next album to be an exact follow-up to any previous work, especially where ARTPOP is concerned. According to Entertainment Weekly, DJ White Shadow, who hinted for months that he was at work with Gaga (he's since stopped working on #LG6), said the next album is “its own record” that signals “a new era” and “not a second act.”
Fans suspected that the former ARTPOP collaborator had big plans to help usher in ARTPOP II, an EP Gaga had previously said she'd be in favor of releasing.
Gaga's hinted that her album might be self-titled:
On Valentine's Day, Gaga posted an Instagram video (which has since become the most-viewed of all time) that includes the notes G-A-G-A.
The album is her baby...literally:
In March, Gaga addressed rumors that she was pregnant by declaring to fans that, yes, she was, indeed, expecting — her next LP, that is.
#LP6 is probably coming really soon:
With Gaga's return to her Vegas residency just a few weeks away (Enigma kicked off its first leg between December and February and will return to the Park Theater on May 30), can we expect a release before summer? Logistically, it makes sense.
Enigma's next installment will run through June 15 and the show series will pick up again on October 17.
