Kelly’s Roast Beef is Expanding Beyond the North Shore and Invading New Hampshire
Kelly's Roast Beef is iconic in Massachusetts' North Shore
It seems like restaurants specializing in roast beef sandwiches keep becoming more and more popular as the years pass on. And if you're anywhere around the North Shore in Massachusetts, when you mention the words "roast beef," one name comes to mind -- Kelly's.
According to their website, Kelly's Roast Beef first opened 70 years ago back in 1951 on Revere Beach in Massachusetts. From there, they expanded and opened a few other locations, but never really leaving the North Shore area. Their three other current locations are in Medford, Danvers, and Saugus.
But all of that is about to change.
Kelly's is looking to takeover a vacant Burger King location in Salem, New Hampshire
Back in late 2018, a Burger King location on Route 28 (181 South Broadway, to be exact) in Salem, New Hampshire closed down and the building has been vacant since. That's the building that Kelly's is setting its sights on opening in.
According to CBS Boston, the Salem Planning Board is meeting next week on December 14 to discuss the matter. The proposed plans call for 10 indoor tables with 40 seats as well as an outdoor patio area that will seat 28 at seven tables.
If all is approved, it'll be interesting to see the response from competing businesses in the area that specialize in roast beef -- Blue House Pizza, also on South Broadway in Salem, and Harrison's Roast Beef in North Andover, Mass -- undoubtedly two of the more popular roast beef restaurants in the area.
