I love J's Oyster, but this has me scratching my head.

J's Oyster recently posted on their Facebook page to boycott Whole Foods because they've stopped selling live lobsters. It's true. Whole Foods has banned the sale of live lobsters and crabs on the grounds that it's inhumane. Of course, this happened back around 2006. But J's has either recently gotten upset again about Whole Foods' decision - or they just found out. This is what they wrote on their Facebook page:

Whole Foods will stop carrying live lobsters because they say it is inhumane. Stop shopping there!! This is Portland Maine!! We were built on the fishing industry. But when it comes down to it the industry will survive because they’re tough, hardworking Mainers. Mary Tyler Moore tried to stop people from eating lobster back in 2004. Obviously, that didn’t work. So skip your tofu zucchini noodles and shop at Hannaford or Shaws.

J's is the heart of the fishing industry and I totally get why they are upset. But J's, this happened over 15 years ago and we are all okay. Because Mainers will always support the backbone of our state - the fishing industry. Comments on the Facebook post are mostly supportive of J's. It's hard not to have J's back. Even J's knows that a ban on selling live lobsters and crabs won't hurt the fishing industry in Maine. They can see that in the last 15 years or so, most people didn't even realize Whole Foods banned live lobsters.

I love J's and this misguided and passionate Facebook post makes me love them even more. I especially like the instructions to skip the tofu zucchini noodles!
