How Were These ‘Jaws’-Like Snow and Ice Sharks Not Created in New England?

This has New England written all over it.

And honestly, when I saw the headline from Boston 25 News about these snow and ice sharks that had been created on a snow-covered front lawn for all of the neighborhood to see, I assumed it was someplace local.

I mean, the iconic movie JAWS was filmed here in New England on Martha's Vineyard -- this has us written all over it!

But DETROIT? WTF?

For the record, there's nothing wrong with Detroit or the fact that that's where these snow and ice sharks were created. In fact, selfishly, I think the woman that did create this is an absolute frickin genius!

According to the Boston 25 News piece, the creator of all the SNOW JAWS (my name, not an actual name for them), Jennifer Ramirez, is a high school art teacher that's clearly insanely creative and talented.

Catching national attention for this, Jennifer told MLive.com that this isn't the first time she's created something more than just a snowman (or snowwoman) out of fresh powder that's fallen.

I did a fox and a little burrow. I did a koala when the Australian fires were happening. I’ve done Pokemon, Angry Birds. I’m hoping for lots more snow. I’m thinking I need to make big rocks with seals or penguins or both.

 

Big rocks with seals? Nevermind Detroit, Jennifer belongs in Maine!

When I reached out to her to make sure it was cool to even write about this and use the pictures she posted on her Facebook page, she told me all of these sharks took only a cumulative five hours over three days to create. Which is impressive AF, honestly, because it seems like they'd take a lot longer.

Jennifer told her hometown Detroit Free Press that after she used the snow and ice covering her front yard to sculpt all the sharks, she "painted them" with food coloring from a spray bottle.

I don't know if it's too late to try and "borrow" Jennifer's idea and bring it home to New England or not (although, CBS 13 is reporting that we could see more snow tonight into Wednesday and then again Thursday into Friday), but we should definitely keep this in mind for next winter.

(And yes, that's me trying to manifest that we're done with the massive snow loads for this winter.)
