I was scrolling through Costco.com and stopped on an item I never thought I would ever see for sale at this giant retailer.

Honestly, I couldn't believe my eyes because it never occurred to me to buy one of these at a warehouse store, nor at a superstore like Walmart, and yet there it was.

Think about the mission statement for Costco, providing high-quality products at discounted prices, and you can begin to understand why the store would offer such a product.

It may seem wild, and it certainly gave me the chills when I saw it on the website, but it does make sense.

Costco, alongside other warehouse and big-box stores, has expanded its product range to include caskets, tapping into the growing demand for affordable funeral services.

By selling caskets, Costco enables families to manage funeral costs in a more budget-conscious way. Customers can order caskets directly from Costco’s website, choosing from a variety of styles and materials that are delivered to funeral homes, typically within a few days.

Other large retailers, such as Walmart and Sam's Club, have also added caskets and urns to their inventory, recognizing a shift in consumer demand for more transparent and cost-effective options in the funeral industry.

Traditionally, caskets and other funeral products have been marked up significantly by funeral homes, which can pressure families financially during an emotional time.

The increasing popularity of warehouse stores for casket purchases reflects changing attitudes toward funerals and end-of-life planning.  Funeral homes are not the only place you can buy cremation urns and caskets anymore.

Everyone needs an urn or a casket at some point in their lives.  Death and taxes.
