Have you seen Shutter Island with Leonardo Dicaprio? The film was directed by the famous Martin Scorsese.

It was a 2010 film that was nominated for several awards, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Horror Film, and many others.

If you have not seen the movie, according to IMBD, here is the synopsis without spoilers:

"Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, are sent to an asylum on a remote island in order to investigate the disappearance of a patient, where Teddy uncovers a shocking truth about the place."

Now the real question is, did you know that the iconic thriller movie was filmed in parts of Acadia National Park, Maine, Nahant, Massachusetts, and other parts of New England?

Here is one classic scene that takes place partially in Acadia National Park:

I mean, look at those cliffs. Even without knowing it, you could tell!

The majority of that scene, however, was filmed in Massachusetts. But many of the general wave and cliff shots were in Maine.

According to an Acadia Visitor article, the scenes with a "rocky island shore and the crashing waves were filmed at Otter Cliffs in Acadia National Park."

But that is not the only New England location that was represented in the thriller.

According to the film's Wikipedia Page:

The film used Peddocks Island as a setting for the story's island. East Point, in Nahant, Massachusetts, was the location for the lighthouse scenes. The scenes where Teddy and Chuck are caught in the hurricane were filmed at the Wilson Mountain Reservation in Dedham, Massachusetts.

If you have not seen the movie, go and give it a try. It is certainly a heart-pounder. If you HAVE seen the film, go back and look to see if you can tell what is filmed in Acadia National Park, Nahant, Dedham, and other parts of Massachusetts.
