Steak and Cheese Subs have been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember. I know Philly claims it as their thing but we have a pretty good handle on it here in New England too.

I remember we had a sub shop in my hometown of Leominster, MA, called Tory's and their steak and cheese subs were nothing short of legendary. First of all they were ENORMOUS and the cheese to steak ratio was absolutely perfect.

They go by a different name now but here is an amazing Yelp review from back in 2008 that really captures the essence of the original Tory's:

"For just over $7 the large Cheese Steaks are amazing and huge enough to feed a small African village. Packed with fresh, lean steak and gooey melted cheese the cheese steaks come in too many varieties to count (ok 21 really, but that is a lot). "

Gooey is the perfect word to describe the consistency of this sandwich and it was nothing short of beautiful.

I have never found a sub shop that replaced Tory's in my heart but I have a feeling that is all about to change...

On a local Facebook group that I follow called New Hampshire Eats (which if you live in New Hampshire and enjoy eating delicious food, you need to be following too) someone posted about a local spot that supposedly has the best Steak and Cheese sub (AND Steak and Cheese calzone) in the area. I felt like it was a bold claim to make but the comments that were pouring in co signed this opinion.

Behold Lindys Country Store in Brentwood, New Hampshire:

As you can see this sandwich is filled to brim with steaky goodness. We love to see the big chunks of bell pepper and every piece of meat is perfectly coated in melty cheese. I don't even need to take a bite to tell you this sandwich will send you to heaven and back.

Lindy's might look like a convenience store on the outside but trust me, it's a whole lot more on the inside.

They are family owned and serve up delicious homemade subs, pizzas, salads, soups, and even baked goods.

If you aren't in a steak and cheese mood, I also heard that their Big Mac pizza will knock your socks off.

People might be mad at me for exposing this hidden gem but I am trying to get Lindy's the praise and recognition they deserve! Swing by and see them the next time you are in Brentwood.
