Boston Television

Remember a simpler time when television was free and filled with friendly faces?

We didn't have to remember what platform the nightly news was on or where our local TV stations were, they were just always there.  Ahhh. the simple life.

All you had to do was pull the knob to turn the TV on, turn the knob to the right for volume and there were the faces of our favorite TV personalities.

TV Was Absolutely Free

If you lived in Southern New Hampshire, like my family, your antennae TV got the local Boston stations in your living room every night.

You only had three channels, 4, 5 & 7 and a couple on UVF.  I don't even know what that stands for, but those channels, 56 & 38, were sometimes fuzzy.  You'd have to wiggle the antennae or attach some tin foil.

Bob Lobel and Liz Walker on WBZ, Channel 4, had a friendship that you could see beyond the camera.  The chemistry was so fun to watch.

Of course there was Chet Curtis and Natalie Jacobson, a married couple.  "Chet & Nat" or "Chat" for short.  Chet was with WCVB-TV, (Channel 5) when it launched in 1972.

Natalie was my favorite.  She kinda looked like my Mom and there she was on TV.  Inspirational in many ways.

Tom Bergeron on Boston TV

Tom Bergeron is one of the biggest success stories when it comes to local media personalities.  He went from local radio to local TV to hosting "Dancing with the Stars."

It's hard to choose a favorite local TV personality.  These days, it's definitely Sean McDonald and Erin Faleau on WMUR, but back in the day if I had to choose, I'd probably say, besides Natalie Jacobson, Joyce Kulhawik.  She was the Entertainment Reporter for WBZ, Channel 4.  Joyce has a smile that could light up a room and she lit up every venue in Boston.

Who is your favorite Boston TV Personality?   Are they on this list?
