Boston Market is Down to 27 Locations Nationwide

According to restaurantbusinessonline.com, there are 27 Boston Market locations left, with seven in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. And it isn't looking good for them or the others that are still open.

Seven locations of Boston Market are in Massachusetts, according to their website, and there are none in New Hampshire anymore.  That's a far cry from 1985, when it was founded and grew to about 1,200 locations, according to the Washington Post.

Two New Hampshire Locations

There were two Boston Market locations that I used to go to, and one on Amherst Street in Nashua, which looks open online, but it's not.  There's another one in Manchester, New Hampshire, that also closed.

Since there are so many closing nationwide, the Massachusetts restaurants could be next.

The article in restaurantbusinessonline.com goes on to say how the chain had been in trouble over the past two years because of lawsuits, unpaid bills, and taxes owed.  The chain has been sued over 150 times.  Wow, that's a lot of lawyers.

Remember When Boston Chicken First Opened in the '90s?

I remember when Boston Market first opened in Nashua.  I remember feeling a sense of relief that I didn't have to cook.  We were just starting out at the time, and my husband worked in the day and I worked at night, so sometimes, it was more convenient to stop by Boston Market (named Boston Chicken at the time) and get a meal that tasted homemade rather than stress about dinner.

From what I've read online, the chain grew very quickly (maybe too quickly), and couldn't keep up with all the bills coming in.  It's not easy to grow at that rate unless you are properly prepared.  The restaurant business is ridiculously busy with one location.  Hard to imagine what it would be like with 1,200 locations all across the country.

I do hope for the best for Boston Market.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for the remaining locations.
