Something New is Coming to The Maine Turnpike This Summer
There's been a handful of changes along the Maine Turnpike in recent years.
That includes a redesign of the interchange in Gray, a redevelopment of the Maine Mall exits as well as opening a brand new exit in Saco, Maine.
Those are examples of very obvious changes that affect drivers who use the Maine Turnpike regularly.
But there's another change set to arrive this summer that could direct impact any drivers who use the EZ Pass system in Maine and beyond.
Maine Turnpike Authority Will Roll Out EZ Pass Sticker System This Summer
If you've been a long time EZ Pass user in Maine, you know there have been a few different styles of the plastic transponder over the years.
All of them have had their issues from being larger and clunky to having trouble sticking to windshields. There's also been the consistent annoyance of EZ Pass transponders and their batteries dying.
The Maine Turnpike Authority has decided to solve many of those issues by rolling out a brand new system. EZ Pass stickers.
The new EZ Pass stickers will work exactly like the current plastic transponders but be less bulky, have zero battery issues and increased theft prevention.
EZ Pass Users in Maine Will Not Be Required To Move To a Sticker
For many users of EZ Pass, the new sticker will feel like an upgrade. But it won't be required.
The Maine Turnpike Authority will begin offering the sticker version to motorists this summer. The MTA hasn't announced a firm launch date.
