If you haven't visited the Maine Mall recently, you may be surprised when you step through the doors. Unlike so many other struggling malls across the country, the Maine Mall is currently thriving.

If you visit during lunchtime, you'll see lines at many of the restaurants inside the food court. Visit on a weekend, and you'll see a bustling corridor of shoppers in almost every wing of the mall.

Jordan's Furniture is seemingly always packed. With furniture shoppers perusing the store and families taking advantage of their ropes course as the perfect indoor activity.

But there's also something hanging over the Maine Mall that should probably be looked at. Especially when it comes to the weekends.

And that is the hours the mall is open.

When the pandemic struck, the Maine Mall adjusted its hours for several different reasons. Those reasons included limiting the potential spread of viruses and staffing shortages that many retailers felt at the time.

That change was implemented more than four years ago. It's beyond time for the Maine Mall to consider returning its closing time to 9 pm on Friday and Saturday nights.

Currently, the only businesses that reserve the right to stay open later than the allotted mall hours are the businesses with their own dedicated entrance. That includes Round 1, which stays open late to cater to games and bowlers.

Redditors theorized that it was a safety and expense issue. The mall has to pay for less security and faces less potential problems by closing earlier. Businesses can carry smaller staff because the Maine Mall only operates 9 hours per day.

During the week? Not a problem. But it's time for weekend evenings at the Maine Mall to come back to life.
