Lewiston, Maine, Hospital Staff Band Together to Help Coworker
It's one of the things that many of us take for granted in Maine whether we want to admit it or not. The ability to get from home to work without much of an issue.
Despite still being a predominantly rural state, most Mainers don't face daily struggles of getting from point A to point B. That's especially true for individuals with quality jobs. Having access to a vehicle seems more like a right than a privilege.
So you can probably imagine the range of emotions one employee at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston was feeling and facing on a daily basis. Corie, an anesthesiology tech at the hospital, had been forced into asking anyone and everyone for rides to and from work to complete his job.
As though the job itself wasn't stressful enough, Corie faced the reality daily of being late to work and leading his fellow staff to believe he wasn't committed to the job. Finding rides was a silent struggle.
But when Corie's coworkers found out about that struggle, they didn't hesitate in their resolve to piece together a resolution. An effort spearheaded by another staff member, Tina Moring, began behind the scenes to raise money on Corie's behalf.
In only 10 days, the staff had pooled together more than $11,000. That allowed the staff to buy Corie a quality used vehicle. Not only that, it allowed the staff to cover the registration expense as well as insurance to get Corie up and running.
Corie's response was emotional and put into words very simply and poignantly. "This has changed my life". A reel shared by Rebecca Mastrianno on Facebook shows the entire moment when the staff delivered Corie his new car.
Kindness and compassion can go a long way.
