Anyone who regularly visits the Maine Mall area in South Portland knows that change is inevitable.

Many of the surrounding restaurants, shops, experiences and more have changed over the course of the last 40 years. Some have changed multiple times over.

In terms of hotels near the Maine Mall, there had been one constant. That would be the Days Inn, which has sat tucked away near the Maine Turnpike on ramp since it was built in 1987.

But things change. And after many months of construction, the former Days Inn is about to become something else.

The Days Inn in South Portland to Become a New Spark By Hilton Hotel

After spending 37 years being a Days Inn, the hotel located at 461 Maine Mall Road in South Portland has nearly completed its transition to becoming a Spark by Hilton hotel.

According to Hotel News Source, extensive renovations have been going on for months at the location. The entire complex was listed for sale months ago, although the listing has since been pulled.

Spark by Hilton is an arm of Hilton hotels that features strictly renovated properties. It's meant to be budget-friendly while still maintaining the type of service you'd expect at any Hilton brand.

Amenities vary by location and there's no details on what the Spark by Hilton in South Portland will offer.

With a new hotel will come new guests and the ripple effects could end up being felt right next door.

The former Chili's location next door to Spark by Hilton remains vacant but if the hotel proves to be a success, that could change quickly.

Spark by Hilton in South Portland is expected to have their grand opening very soon.
