A Night of Chills and Thrills: Damnationland Takes Over Portland, Maine

'Tis the season—time to embrace the spine-chilling thrills of Damnationland! Now in its 14th year, the annual showcase of Maine-made horror films is back. If you're a horror fan and you love to support local when you get the chance, you might need to clear your calendar. The world premiere is Friday, October 18th, at our iconic State Theatre here in Portland.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Damnationland isn’t just a seasonal event; it’s a year-round labor of love for Maine filmmakers who spend countless hours crafting their tales of terror. With a unique blend of creativity and local Maine inspiration, these filmmakers come from every corner of the state, proving that Maine isn’t just about beautiful coastlines and lobsters—it’s also a breeding ground for spine-tingling stories. I mean... we are the home of Stephen King.

Co-founder Allen Baldwin and his dedicated Damnationland crew are ready to showcase some of Maine’s most original talents. If you've been following Damnation, which dates back to 2010, you likely know this isn’t just about the scares; it’s about community, inclusivity, and giving the talented Maine filmmakers a platform to shine.

Yeah, Night of the Living Dead, Halloween and The Shining are all classics but I have to say, watching spine-chilling short stories created and filmed in Maine by local filmmakers is pretty awesome.
