Located along Maine’s rocky coast, Acadia is a beautiful and peaceful place. It’s full of natural wonders and offers a perfect example of nature’s beauty, all packed into one small, stunning spot.

Acadia is One of America's Most Beautiful National Parks

Birding is the act of observing birds in their natural habitat. For some, it’s a beloved hobby; for others, a form of citizen science. People from all walks of life are drawn to it, especially in places rich with diverse bird species.

It also seems like one of those activities that many people picked up during the pandemic, and its popularity remains strong.

Is Acadia National Park One of the Best Places in America to Bird Watch?

The iconic magazine BirdWatching Daily recently featured birding in an article listing the top places in America to enjoy the hobby. And would you believe it? Acadia National Park made the list. It was ranked the 14th best birding destination in the U.S.—an impressive spot.

Here’s a bit of what BirdWatching Daily had to say about why it chose Acadia as one of the top places in the country for birding.

Maine’s Acadia National Park embraces Mount Desert Island, Schoodic Peninsula, Isle au Haut, and several small islands, and it’s a stunningly beautiful place. The park’s wonders — jagged shorelines, tidal pools, streams, lakes, woodlands, and the only fjord in eastern North America — attract some 325 bird species throughout the year.

BirdWatching Daily specifically highlights the large number of warblers that call Acadia home during the spring and summer, as well as the breeding grounds for iconic species like the Atlantic puffin, which can be found just off the coast.

While it’s no surprise to see Acadia on a “best of birding” list, it’s still awesome to see. And as someone who knows a few birders personally, I can tell you this ranking is legit. With birding continuing to grow in popularity, we can expect more articles like this to shine a light on Acadia’s unique appeal.

It also helps that the park has a charm that truly screams “Maine.” It’s the only true northeastern destination that captures all the region’s best features—including mountains that literally touch the sea. It’s the perfect landscape for anyone looking to experience nature at its finest. No wonder so many birds call it home. They’re no dummies.
