September 2026 saw a number of Maine restaurant closures.

One spot had been around for nearly four decades, while another for a little over four months.

From Bangor to Portland to Arundel, these spots all said goodbye to their customers, thanking them for their support, regardless of how long they'd been around.

Do you remember 1990?

"Home Alone" came out in theaters that year, and the first episode of "Seinfeld" premiered on TV. In Maine, there were no Walmart stores then. (The first one wouldn't arrive until two years later in Scarborough, according to the Portland Press Herald.)

But 1990 was also the year that Taste of India opened in Bangor, Maine.

The family-owned and operated spot, which became a real staple in the city for nearly four decades, announced its closure recently in a Facebook post.

So, it was no surprise to see the outpouring of memories and stories about Taste of India in the comments:

"I am so happy for you guys but devastated for the rest of us. I wish you all the best in your retirement and thank you so much for all the yummy food!"

"I don’t know what I’m gonna do without you guys! Your food is my favorite Indian food by far. Nothing even comes close! Thank you for sharing your food with us over the years. Enjoy your retirement!"

That kind of longevity can make a closure extra tough, but some places aren't as lucky in their journey.

On the flip side, Full Circle Cafe in Lebanon had barely gotten off the ground before it had to call it quits.

The place opened in early May, and not even five months later, it shared on social media that it was closing for good.

It, too, had a number of people commenting about their disappointment and sadness at the news.

And those were just two restaurants that ended their runs in September. Take a look at some of the others:

Can you believe the number of places around for such a long time? Portland Pie in Westbrook and Bandaloop in Arundel were over 20 years.

It's certainly not fun to see local restaurants ending their run, but the fact remains that even when these places are gone, they are not forgotten.

They're just another piece of Maine's food history.
