Honestly, I really do pretty much hate politics.

On the other hand, you can certainly hate all the politics you want, but it's an inevitable fate. No matter what, some kind of election is always gonna come around. And there's always a lot of hoo-ha that goes along with it. Everything from presidential elections to bond issues, it never ends.

Even though I hate politics, I do try to keep informed. Honestly, it's not like you can stop it. But I kind of subscribe to the old adage, if you can't beat 'em... join 'em. So it does pay to keep informed. And it would seem overall, Mainers are doing a pretty good job at keeping up with whatever's going on, according to WalletHub.com.

It's not hard to see. Mainers spend a ton of time on social media sites, sharing their views with anyone that will listen, or even argue for that matter. You can' find an article online or the sharing of a news story, that won't somehow become a political statement. This isn't about who you're voting for at all. This is about how much we actually vote.

We really shined in the 2022 primaries, where we dominated the field by physically voting. Around the country, we placed 5th for young people voting. However, we don't fare nearly as well for voting in our later years. We dip way down to 23rd for voting among the elderly over 65.

Maine is a wildly divided state politically.

We have two very distinct geographic regions that have a pretty sizable rift as far as choice of candidates. The Northern part of Maine leans more conservative, while the Southern region of Maine leans much more liberal. So much so, it's often caused splits in our electoral votes.

Not to mention horrible online arguments, and even people dropping minor explosive devices from drones on people they didn't jive with politically. That's absolutely crazy! But certainly, no one can tell us that we're not doing our part. We may be a little nutty about doing it, but we're on the right path.
