New ‘Spot’ Opening In Downtown Bangor Featuring Ice Cream, Snacks And Maine Made Products
They had me at ice cream. But then they locked in when I learned they had a vintage Slush Puppy machine!
If you hadn't noticed yet, there's a new little 'spot' to grab a snack, a frozen treat, and some cool locally made products while you're be-bopping around Bangor.
Roscoe Witham, owner of Float 207, and his wife, Rachel, owner of Utopia, have decided to throw their energy and know-how into a 3rd business, a joint venture that's a little bit of everything, but all delicious!
It's called The Downtown Spot, and it's nestled right on the corner of 73 Main Street, where G M Pollock & Sons used to be.
The store's been in the works for a while, and will hold a grand-opening celebration before Halloween. Witham says it will offer visitors and those who work in the downtown Bangor area a convenient place to pop in and out of to grab a sweet treat.
"We offer both soft & hard serve ice cream, freeze-dried items for people & pets, a range of beverages, Maine-made local products, slush puppies from our vintage 1980s machine, and grab and go food."
I haven't had a genuine Slush Puppie since there used to be a 711 on the corner of Broadway and State Street in Bangor, before they tore it down to make a parking lot.
For fans of the downtown eatery, Utopia, The Downtown Spot also features premade food from the restaurant that you can "take and bake" for those nights you want a tasty homemade meal but don't have the time to put it together yourself.

If you plan to stop in for a soft-serve, they say that the consistency might be a little bit richer and creamier than you're used to, as they use a 10% mix versus the 4-5% mix that most other places do with their soft-serve. I might have to try this...in the name of science, of course.
Both Rachel and Roscoe are lactose intolerant, so they feel it's important to offer options that are allergy-friendly, along with the gourmet soft-serve and Gifford's hard serve. They will have dairy-free sorbet, a vegan vanilla ice cream, and gluten-free cones.
Witham says people are welcome to come say hello as they get the shop up and running, with the understanding that they're still putting the finishing touches on everything to have that grand opening by the end of the month.
Welcome to downtown, Downtown Spot! So excited to have an ice-cream shop on Main Street.
