Heavy Rain and High Winds Batter Maine Ahead of Cooler Weekend
The heavy rain soaking Maine will finally taper off by Friday morning, but the strong winds are sticking around through Saturday. Central Maine Power is already reporting more than 7,000 outages as gusts continue to sweep across the state.
According to WGME 13, rain will move north-northeast and wrap up for most areas by around 9 a.m. Friday. After that, skies will brighten, and we’ll see a brief warm-up into the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Enjoy that sunshine while you can, it won’t last long.
Meteorologist Emily Santom said that as trick-or-treaters head out Friday evening, we expect cooler temperatures, increasing clouds, and strong gusts shifting from the southeast to southwest through the afternoon and evening. Wind speeds could reach 35 to 40 MPH, so hold onto those costumes! Most of the state will end up with one to two inches of total rainfall by the time the storm clears.
Saturday kicks off November with plenty of sun but continued gusty west winds up to 40 MPH and highs in the low 50s. WGME says that some early mountain snow showers are possible as colder air pushes in.
By Sunday, winds will ease and skies remain sunny with highs again near 50. Don’t forget, Daylight Saving Time ends early Sunday at 2 a.m., so set your clocks back before bed Saturday night. It’s also the perfect time to check and test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as we settle into the cooler months ahead.
