Maine Woman Makes History at Sunday Night’s Grammy Awards
When you think of the Grammy Awards, you typically don't think that a Mainer is going to be among the winners. Let's face it, a lot of musical acts come from either Nashville or Tennessee, albeit most of the time they are transplants.
Well, that all changed last night at the annual Grammy awards as a Maine native became the very first woman to ever win the coveted title of Songwriter of the Year (non classical).
According to an article by WMTW, Maine native Amy Allen, who grew up in Windham, Maine, won the Grammy award making history for both Maine and women alike. In addition, Allen also won Best Pop Vocal Album as she cowrote all of Sabrina Carpenter's album, Short 'n Sweet.
During Sunday's ceremony, Allen said in part about the wins,
"The child in me that started writing songs when I was little is screaming and crying and laughing at this moment. Without us, there would be no songs. We are the engine that fuels the entire music industry."
If you've listened to the radio for more than 3 minutes, you know that Sabrina Carpenter is absolutely everywhere and I think it is SO cool that a Maine native is being recognized for her work on this incredible album. Allen was also nominated as part of several other awards, too!
The WMTW article went on to say in part,
Allen was nominated for her work with Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Timberlake, Olivia Rodrigo, Tate McRae, Leon Bridges and Koe Wetzel on a string of hit songs, including Sabrina Carpenter's "Please Please Please" and "Espresso," which were nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year, respectively, but did not win those categories.
