We now have more information regarding the Thursday morning closure of the Piscataqua River Bridge between Maine and New Hampshire.

According to an article on the WMTW website, the bridge was the scene of a police-involved shooting.

The article explains that police shot and killed a man on the bridge.  The man had been wanted for allegedly killing a woman at a home in Troy, New Hampshire.

Police reportedly also found the body of an 8-year-old child in the vehicle who had been shot to death, according to the news station.

The names of the people involved have not yet been released.

According to a press release from the Office of the Attorney General of New Hampshire:

Attorney General John M. Formella and State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall announce that members of the Attorney General’s Office and New Hampshire State Police are working with the Maine Attorney General’s Office and Maine State Police to investigate an incident that appears to have started with an adult male killing an adult female at a residence in Troy, New Hampshire overnight and then driving to the Piscataqua River Bridge on Interstate 95 at the Portsmouth, New Hampshire state line with Kittery, Maine.

Early this morning police engaged with the adult male on the bridge in an incident that ended with the male being fatally shot. The Maine Attorney General’s Office is now investigating that officer-involved shooting incident.

The closure of the bridge caused significant Thursday morning traffic backups in Maine and New Hampshire.

On a typical day, over 75,000 vehicles use the bridge to cross the river.  During peak tourist season, however, about 130,000 vehicles cross the bridge each day.

We will update this story as more details become available.
