3 Maine Towns Getting Over $4 Million From Federal Government For Safety Upgrades
When we think about important upgrades in Maine towns, we normally think of the money for those upgrades as coming from either the town's coffers or from the State of Maine. This is not always the case, though.
Sometimes, these towns get money from the federal government.
According to an article on the WABI website, more than $4 million is heading to three Maine towns to help boost public safety.
The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development and is expected to benefit more than 15,000 residents combined.
In Brownfield, nearly $2.9 million will go toward building a new public safety facility to replace the town’s current fire station. The upgraded space will give crews more room for trucks, training, and equipment.
Meanwhile, Springfield is set to receive $750,000 to construct a new town office that will also include a fire station located away from residential areas.
And in Surry, $492,000 will be used to purchase a new fire truck, replacing older vehicles that no longer meet current standards.
