The charges come in connection with the disappearance of 39-year-old Erik Foote of Washburn.  According to WCSH 6, Foote was last seen near a Freshies store in Presque Isle on January 30.  His family reported him missing on February 6.

The WMTW article explains that on February 10, the Washburn Police Chief asked Aroostook County Sheriff's Office to become the lead agency on the investigation.

During that investigation, the sheriff's department reportedly found evidence of criminal activity by former Sergeant Cole.  He was taken into custody on March 29.

The evidence that led to Cole's arrest has not been released, and it is not known what Cole's alleged actions had to do with Foote's disappearance.

NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law

Erik Foote remains missing nearly two-and-a-half months following his disappearance.  He is 5-foot-10 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes.  If you know something about Foote's whereabouts, please call the sheriff's office at 1-800-432-7842.
