Before You Visit Old Orchard Beach, You Need to Check Out These 3 Other Maine Beaches

Old Orchard Beach is the quintessential tourist beach.

It has a beautiful, sandy, beach that stretches for miles.  It is the perfect place to splash around in the ocean, to build a sandcastle, or to just relax and enjoy the sun.  In addition to the beach, the town also offers a beachfront amusement park, dozens of cool shops, and some really great restaurants.

If you ask anyone in New England about beaches, Old Orchard Beach is going to be one of the first that pops in their minds.

However, Maine has many other beaches that are worth a visit!  We've put together a list of three that are worth checking out

1. Ogunquit Beach

Located just off the beaten path (US Route 1), Ogunquit Beach is one of the most talked about beaches in Maine.  In fact, people from around the world have taken note of how beautiful the beach is.  This sandy beach often comes up on lists of the best beaches in the world.

2. Popham Beach

Located on Route 209 in Phippsburg, Popham Beach is open year around.  It is also important to remember that they also collect usage fees all year long.  Popham Beach State Park is Maine’s busiest state park beach, offering amenities like bathhouses, solar-powered freshwater rinse stations, and charcoal grills for visitors.  Ongoing natural sand movement has caused significant shoreline changes and dune erosion, so guests are encouraged to stick to designated trails and avoid vegetated areas to help protect and restore the dunes.  Learn more about the beach HERE

3. Weston's Beach

This one is a little hidden and it is not located on the Atlantic Ocean.  Instead, you'll find it off River Street in Fryeburg.  Secluded and free, this beach is sandy and gorgeous.  It is located right on the Saco River.  So, if you are not planning to drive to the beach (there is a big parking lot), you can always stop during your float down the river.
