If you've read any of my articles, you probably have learned that I am a train geek and have been for as long as I can remember.

I lived on Nichols Street in South Paris, MAine, and the railroad crossing at the end of the street was very visible to me by standing on the landing of our stairs and looking out the large window. I never missed a train, because I was that much of a geek.

Over half a century later, I'm still doing it. I'm the only driver in nearly all of Maine who gets excited when the lights start flashing and the train is about to come through.

So you also wouldn't be surprised when you find out why I took a drive with Michele to Island Pond, Vermont. a quaint little town that happens to have the railroad run right through it.

Railroad aside, this is a really nice town that almost seems stuck in time, and that's a good thing! It reminds me of small rural towns in Maine and New Hampshire that have small populations, where everybody knows your name. This small town really should have a bar named Cheers.

This church, on the other side of the pedestrian bridge, got our attention when the bells went off at 3 p.m. just as we were getting ready to leave.
