Ice Skating at Puddle Dock Pond in Portsmouth, New Hampshire Is Winter Family Fun

What are we waiting for?

While our December has been on the warmer side overall, keeping us from skating on our naturally freezing New Hampshire ponds, Labrie Family Skate at Puddle Dock Pond is open.

It kicked off the holiday season, and you can either make reservations or try and walk on.

If you're not familiar with it, it's part of the Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth at 14 Hancock Street.

Labrie Family Skate and Puddle Dock Pond freezes its ice and professionally maintains it, so you and your friends and family don't have to wait to ice skate.

It means ice skating all season long.

What makes this skating pond so extra special is, according to Strawbery Banke, every bit of the pond is created by a volunteer committee in collaboration with the museum.  That's a lot of love going into a winter wonderland that's so very quintessential New England as outdoor ice skating is.

The Puddle Dock Society and 1360 Society, according to the website, plays a big role in keeping this highlight to Seascoast winters alive through donations and fundraising.

Are you ready to practice your figure eights and hockey stops?  There are public skate times as well as private rink rentals available, all while adhering to COVID precautions.

And did I mention the fire pit for the chillier days and nights?

It's more than just public and private skating, though.
