I've never actually "gone viral" in any sense of the word. I've had lots of pictures and videos and photos of events that we've done at the radio station I work at that have garnered thousands of likes and whatnot from the Maine community.

But never have I had a piece of content go nationally viral. Well, in March 2022, that all changed.

The video I made had over 500,000 views and 40,000 likes nearly after one day. I couldn't even believe it. For starters, I'm not really all that funny, and I'm certainly not very "easy on the eyes," so you can imagine my surprise!

With fuel prices absolutely skyrocketing across the planet at the time, I knew that a video using that topic would likely resonate with everyone who drives a vehicle. That's a lot of people, right?

Plus, gas prices always feel like they're going up pretty much anytime you look, right?

So I headed out to my driveway (in the rain) and concocted a short clip of the struggle with fuel.

Of course, I drive a diesel, so the price I pay at the pump is even more than people just getting regular unleaded, so I had a little fun at my own expense. Take a look and let me know what you think!

Looking back on that video now that it's been a little over a year, it has over 1 million views and over 114,000 likes. Incredible.

And I'm sure for many of you, the video definitely still resonates. Off to the pump!

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
