Stay Away From Maine’s Most Haunted Road After Dark
Maine is filled with history and ghost stories that will fill you to the brim with nightmares and if you are anything like us and enjoy jump scares then this journey is for you.
Did you know that Route 2A through Haynesville Woods in Maine, is super haunted?
You think of the word "haunted" and you picture houses, churches, or structures, but never roads.
This time it’s the trees, the pavement and the haunted wind that I’m talking about. It’s located in Norther Maine and it’s a long rural stretch of road in Aroostook County.
It looks charming and peaceful during that day, with lovely trees lining the sides of the road and complete silence in every direction. But when the dark hits, and the sun sets, so does your calming peace of mind.
According to the Travelers Field Guide, the trees don't only whisper, they watch. This road is highly known for it’s deadly turns and ghost-filled legends. This road has earned one of the creepiest reputations, of being Maine’s most haunted.
Here’s why..
The road was a main route for truckers that were hauling potatoes, and this is before I-95 took over. The road becomes extremely dangerous though the winter months due to being narrow and winding.
So dangerous that it even inspired a country song by Dick Curless called “A Tombstone Every Mile.”
The Haunted Highway of Maine: Route 2A’s Ghostly Secrets
Throughout the years, there have been too many fatal accidents. But the ghost stories is what gives this road that eerie vibe.
There's a tale of two girls that come out from the forest to visit drivers. If you see them and slow down, it is said they vanish. When these sightings take place, the drivers say they feel a sense of overwhelming sadness and dread.

People who travel along this road in the dark, have reported seeing a woman in white standing alongside of the road, looking for her lost husband. Other folks have actually seen ghost kids running quickly and darting across the road and then just disappearing into the woods.
But the most chilling of all the stories is the woman in a wedding dress, searching for her long lost love. According to the article, she is "barefoot, soaked from the rain or snow, waving for help. She disappears the moment someone pulls over. Always."
According to the legend, she died on her wedding night with her husband and when the car went off the icy road, neither survived.
Can you imagine driving down the road, headlights on, light fog rolling in, pitch dark blackness, when suddenly you feel dread and see a woman in white crying out for help. No thank you!
If you are brave or foolish enough to drive this road at night, never, ever stop for hitchhikers. You know why. They may not be amongst the living.
