Five McDonald’s Locations in Maine That Once Had Unique Themes
People in Maine have loved chain restaurants for decades because they're consistent and usually budget-friendly as well. McDonald's has long been a bit in Maine, with locations spanning from Madawaska to Kittery. These days, it's not just the food and prices that are consistent, but also the look of the restaurants.
Once upon a time, many McDonald's locations in Maine were home to unique decor or interesting themes. Redditor xach took a trip down memory lane, asking other Mainers if McDonald's locations local to them had anything distinctive about their closest McDonald's. There were five locations that stood out.
Freeport
The Freeport McDonald's has become world famous as one of the "fanciest" McDonald's in the world. Freeport town ordinances forced McDonald's hand to comply with certain building codes, but sometimes the best things arrive by accident. While McDonald's likely wishes their Freeport location could look like the rest of their restaurants, the "fancy" McDonald's has become its own draw.
Lincoln
Like most other McDonald's locations on this list, the small town of Lincoln saw theirs remodeled a few years back. Prior to the update, the Lincoln McDonald's location was home to a working wood stove. It was one of a handful of McDonald's locations in Maine that had the feature, a nod to Maine's lumber industry.
Augusta
Another McDonald's that has recently been renovated is one of the Augusta locations, which once looked more like a car show than a fast food restaurant. Inside the restaurant, the McDonald's was decked out like it was an old school rock 'n roll diner you might see in Happy Days. The theme was a huge hit in the area for years.
Bangor
Another McDonald's location that had a memorable theme, the interior of the Bangor location was dressed up like a wilderness lodge. For many consistent visitors, the lodge decor had a calming vibe and made it feel like anything but a McDonald's. Like all of the locations on this list other than Freeport, it has been updated and done away with the lodge look.
Brewer
Similar to the location in Augusta, the Brewer McDonald's once rocked a '50s theme that was a big hit amongst locals. Instead of that rock n' roll flare, the Brewer location leaned into a classic car theme. That included having some iconic cars parked in front of the restaurant. These days, it shares a similar look to almost all of the McDonald's locations in Maine.
