Maine police departments really take the motto "To Protect and To Serve" to heart, and go above and beyond to do the little things that help their communities.

For instance, there's Officer Matt Yeaton of the Falmouth Police Department. When a call came in from a woman whose dog was trapped under her deck, she was desperate and hoped someone could come help rip it up to get the dog out.

Officer Yeaton responded and carefully was able to work the deck up enough, without breaking it, to get the woman's dog out and to safety.

Her daughter said, "I cannot tell you how much we appreciate his patience and his kindness. We are eternally grateful."
