Falmouth Considers Plastic Bag Ban
Falmouth is considering a fee for one time use shopping bags, which would be followed by an outright ban on them a year later.
The town is following the lead of cities such as Portland and South Portland, which recently adopted the fee. But Falmouth wants to take it a step further, with a ban going into effect after one year of fees.
Proponents say it is a necessary measure to curb pollution. But some people argue that they like to reuse the bags for other things, like cleaning up after pets.
Falmouth would be the first town in the state of Maine to ban plastic bags.
