Bed Bath & Beyond is Closing Maine Location Permanently
We're fortunate in Maine, given the sparse population, to be fairly freighted with major retail stores. Sure, they come and they go from time to time, but there is always a pretty hefty selection of chains to choose from.
Take the Marketplace @ Augusta for example. Over the last couple of decades the area has grown to be the largest cluster of locally owned and corporate merchants anywhere in Central Maine. And, no matter when you go, it always seemed to be packed- and that's a good thing!
However, not all major retailers are cut out to survive in all Maine locations. For example, we've just learned that one of Bed Bath & Beyond's premier Maine locations will be shutting down permanently.
The news station is reporting that back in the month of August, the corporation made an announcement that it would be starting the process of shutting down about 150 stores nationwide and laying off about 20 percent of their overall staff.
When the corporation made the first round of closure announcements, none of the Maine stores appeared on the list. However, according to a new list out Tuesday, the giant retailer, which currently has four Maine locations, is planning to close its Brunswick store for good.
Following the closure of the Brunswick store, Bed Bath & Beyond will be down to only three Maine locations which will include, Augusta, Bangor and South Portland.
Currently, there is no word on when the Brunswick Bed Bath & Beyond will be closing, but it ultimately will be happening. We would recommend anyone who may want to visit the store either do so soon, or plan to visit one of the remaining three locations on your next visit.
The is a developing story and we will continue to keep it updated as more information becomes available, including a closing date for the store.
