More Maine, New Hampshire Bed Bath & Beyond Stores to Close for Good
It has been a rough time for Bed Bath & Beyond over the past several months. The longtime home goods retailer has seen a "restructuring" after a downturn in profits, while expenses continued to soar. That led to an initial wave of Bed Bath & Beyond store closures, some of which were in New England. As it turns out, the chain wasn't done with store closures, and three more Maine and New Hampshire locations are poised to be shuddered.
According to the Bed Bath & Beyond closure list, the first Maine location to close has been added to the list. The Bed Bath & Beyond location on Bath Road at the Merrymeeting Plaza in Brunswick is set for closure. The closures aren't expected to be immediate, but soon. As of this writing, the remaining Maine locations of Bed Bath & Beyond in Augusta, Bangor, and South Portland plan to remain open.
A pair of New Hampshire closes were added to the list as of February 7. The Bed Bath & Beyond locations at 58 Plaistow Rd in Plaistow as well as the location at 123 Route 101A in Amherst are to set to permanently close in the not too distant future. The remaining 6 New Hampshire locations in Bedford, Concord, Keene, Nashua, Portsmouth, and Salem plan to remain open.
Bed Bath & Beyond has closed nearly 200 stores nationwide as they transition towards a new business plan, focusing on a rewards program for loyal customers and brands the everyday consumer might recognize. The company has not ruled out further closures of underperforming stores in the future.
