St Patrick's Day in Portland is always one of the best days of the year. Except for last year. Oh, and this year. Usually, the bars are full, people are singing and dancing in the streets, the St Paddy's Day parade goes down Commercial Street, and the city is buzzing...in more ways than one! So it was a joy to find one guy who wouldn't let a global pandemic stop his years-long tradition of playing his bagpipes for the people of Portland. Meet George, from Pine Point. George has played his bagpipes on St Patrick's Day at the iconic Miss Portland Diner for many years. With COVID, George took his gig outside and played a free concert for traffic passing by on Marginal Way. He looked great in the kilt and sounded fantastic! Thank you, George and the Miss Portland Diner for keeping the spirit of St Paddy's Day alive. I say we put George at the head of the St. Patrick's Day Parade next year!
