For weeks now, my daughters (5 and 7 years old) have been begging me to bake a cake.

Although I have zero experience whatsoever in the world of baking, I figured "how hard can it be?" I got the easiest mix I could find...All you need to do is add water!

We mixed it together and put it in the oven. For the first few minutes as we watched it bake, I remember thinking, "Wow, that's rising pretty close to the top..." After about ten minutes, a little started to spill over. I figured it was no big deal...it shouldn't be that hard to clean up a little bit of mess...

After a few more minutes, even more spilled out. I started to realize that I probably used the wrong size cake pan. But I didn't want to abandon ship! My girls were so excited about this!! I decided to keep baking it, even though it was making a huge mess in the oven.

A few minutes later, it really started to stink. I opened the oven, and smoke came pouring out. At this point I decided it was best to accept defeat, and turn off the oven...for I realized that keeping my oven from catching fire was more important than my pride.

I felt SO bad having to tell my girls that there would be cake that night. But they totally let me off the hook. "It's ok, Daddy...we'll try again another time" they said. They were so understanding and forgiving, which is just one of the many reasons that I LOVE MY GIRLS!
