Sanford Named Most Affordable City in Maine but Some Disagree

Back in March of 2025, a website called New Home Source published its list of the 9 most affordable cities in Maine to live in. Number one went to Sanford, Maine, and based on social media comments, a lot of people don't believe it.

New Home Source is a real estate website that showcases homes that are for sale across the country. These sites are a dime a dozen, but this one did some work to crunch the numbers when it comes to the most affordable cities or towns in Maine.

They give the home price to income ratio, the average property tax in the city, and the median household income to use in determining how affordable each town or city is to make the list. The article says that they listed ten homes in their research, but there are only nine. That's a red flag.

Comments Aren't Pretty

People were pretty vocal in the comments on the Facebook post that the City of Sanford shared about the good news that they were number one. Not everyone was a believer:

Come on, guys. Can't you just let Sanford have this win? It seems to have a bad rap with the rest of Maine that is undeserved.

To the City of Sanford residents who are proud of their ranking, congratulations. To the naysayers, I ask, "Do you even live in Sanford?"
