I'm not sure what it is about those of us who live in Maine, but we're a different type of people that you'll find in other parts of the country. We go out of our way to help our neighbors and even complete strangers. Here's a perfect example.

An anonymous Mainer found a mask on Popham Beach that clearly wasn't from around here as it had a trojan mascot on it and read "MDVC Trojans." A lot of people would either leave it where it was, or put it in a lost and found, but this anonymous person went way beyond that.

We can assume that this Maine good samaritan Googled the MDCV Trojans and found out the mask belonged to someone associated with Marais Des Cignes Valley School District in Melvin, Kansas. They mailed the mask back to the district in October with a hand-written note that they shared on their Facebook page.

Here's what the note said:

Dear New Friend,

This mas was found at Forth Popham, Popham Beach State Park in Phippsburg, Maine. I washed it and am returning it hoping one of your students may remember their visit. Or perhaps a parent or staff member. Enjoy!

It's another one of those nice things that happened in Maine, that reminds us how kind those who live here really are.
