With a state nickname like Vacationland and anywhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of the state having a coastal border, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Maine has some of the best beaches in New England. But thanks to a recent report, we can now say we also have one of the best beaches in the country!

Mr. Beach announced the Top 50 beaches in the country for 2022

Every year, Randall Kaplan, who is the world's foremost beach expert (according to Yahoo! Finance) and better known as Mr. Beach, ranks the Top 50 beaches in the entire country. As expected, there are the usual suspects when it comes to states you'd think obviously make the list -- Hawaii, Florida, California, Florida -- but this year's list features one of our own beaches!

Ogunquit Beach is one of the best beaches in the United States

In Mr. Beach's rankings, Ogunquit Beach pops up toward the top of the final third of the list, ranking in at #38. For comparison, of the 50 beaches in the country that were listed, only two other beaches in New England appeared -- Lucy Vincent Beach in Chilmark, Massachusetts (a town on Martha's Vineyard) at #34, and Crane Beach in Ipswich, Mass rounding out the list at #50.

While Mainers love Ogunquit, some love other beaches more

during low tide, visitors can walk all the way to Fox Island.

After learning what someone from away like Mr. Beach thinks of Maine beaches, specifically Ogunquit, we decided to poll actual Mainers on which beaches they think are the most popular. There were two absolute outliers that received the most responses, while a few others agreed with Mr. Beach. One of the beaches that received the most responses was Popham Beach in Phippsburg, which is considered to be Maine's busiest beach. There's a solid chance that one of the reasons is due to the fact that during low tide, visitors can walk all the way to Fox Island.

The other beach that Mainers showed a lot of love to in our poll was, of course, Old Orchard Beach. That should come as no real shock, though, since there is so much to do at OOB for the entire family, including browsing around in shops, indulge in some of the most wildly delicious food that will ever hit your lips, rent a boat and go fishing, hop in a kayak or canoe, or simply just layout and take in the rays!

Regardless, it's good to see at least one of our amazing beaches here in Maine get some national love like is so rightly deserved.

Along with Ogunquit, OOB, and Popham, here are 7 other beaches that you said you love the most

And speaking of Old Orchard Beach, you can now mine for gold while you visit

LOOK: See America's 50 Best Beach Towns

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
