In a world that can almost feel too busy, too noisy, and too expensive, one Maine woman is showing us all you can show up for yourself and do good for others at the same time.

Her name is Ashley Flowers and her project is called ”Yoga for Good" which is making it’s way through Portland, creating a lot of buzz. One breath, one stretch, at a time.

So here’s the deal, Ashley created a donation-based class series back in 2024 and to this day has raised $2,000 for nine local nonprofits.

She hosts classes in cool, community-driven spaces like Toad & Co, where yogis roll out their mats right in the back of the store and contribute what they can, with no pressure, no judgment.

The suggested donation is $15, but the mission is simple: everyone is welcome.

And as per the article, thanks to Toad & Co’s sponsorship, 100% of that money goes directly to local nonprofits.

Jamie Azulay recently shared an inspiring Instagram video spotlighting Ashley Flowers, honoring her as WMTW’s Community Champion.

Even better, these “Yoga for Good” sessions pop up on First Fridays, giving people a chance to kickstart their day with movement, mindfulness, and connection.

The inclusive spirit is sitting at the heart of everything Flower does. According to WMTW, “If you can breathe, you can do yoga,”

This philosophy that resonates deeply with both beginners and seasoned yogis.

How Ashley Flowers Is Turning Yoga Into Community Impact in Portland

Each class supports a different cause, including the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center, which provides recreational opportunities for people of all abilities.

But this isn’t just about yoga poses.

As per the article, and the clear and obvious impact it’s already had, it’s about connection. To show up for yourself, for your community.
