Winthrop Schools Dealing With “Serious Outbreak” Of COVID-19 Cases
On Monday, October 25th, Winthrop Schools Superintendent Jim Hodgkin posted a message on the Winthrop Schools website explaining that the school system was in the process of dealing with a serious outbreak of COVID-19 cases.
In the post, he explained that students and staff at all three Winthrop schools had been affected by the outbreaks.
He said they were doing all they could in order to keep the schools open and explained that he had been reaching out to the CDC outbreak staff in order to determine what next steps would be needed.
The post goes on to say:
At this point, I am just informing you all so that you can decide what you want to do regarding sending your child to school or keeping them home. It is possible, if not likely, that the CDC may tell us to close all of our schools. I wanted to make you all aware. I will be in touch as soon as I have more information.
Obviously, we hope that everyone affected makes a speedy recovery.
Back in September, Hodgkin had expressed concerns about the number of positive cases the school district had seen in the few weeks that the school had been open. A that time, he had said that there was a chance that in-person learning could be suspended if the number of cases did not subside.
