Why The Romaine Lettuce Recall Will Ruin My Diet
Greens are an essential part of any good nutrition program, and lettuce is a dieter's best friend. However, the only kind I like is romaine lettuce. I just won't eat iceburg lettuce. It has no flavor. So, this romaine recall is bad news for me and my ongoing attempts to lose weight.
In case you haven't heard the news, there's a nationwide recall on romaine lettuce because of multi-state E. coli poisoning cases, according to the Portland Press Herald. The lettuce in question comes from Yuma, Arizona. Even though there have been no reported E. coli illnesses from romaine lettuce in Maine and New Hampshire, the Maine Center for Disease Control & Prevention is not taking any chances. The Portland Press Herald reports the Maine CDC sent out a warning on Friday about the dangers of eating romaine lettuce.
“E. coli symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting."
Here's the bottom line: Don't buy romaine lettuce until further notice. And, if you have any in your refrigerator, throw it out or take it back to the store you bought it from for a refund.
