Did you know that bringing firewood into Maine is against the state’s regulations? I didn't until I saw a sign as I was driving across the state line from New Hampshire into Maine. Why? Because of invasive insects and other pests, according to WABI. The report says: "Untreated firewood is a dangerous threat." Even though this makes total sense, it's not something your average Floridian would think about, since the concept of needing wood for an oven or fireplace is relatively new to people who don't experience real winters.

Almost all kinds of firewood are prohibited, according to the website "Don't Move Firewood". That includes hardwood, softwood, seasoned, debarked, kiln-dried, and green wood.

It will soon be camping season, so this is good information for tourists to have.
