What’s the Story Behind the So-Called Toilet House on Route 5 in Limerick?
It made me pull right over!
On Route 5 in Limerick, as I was driving along, I came upon a very busy and very odd scene. I have dubbed it, the 'toilet house'.
Rumor has it and I was unable to confirm nor deny the rumor, that the people who owned the property wanted to start a business and were denied the proper permit by Limerick - so they started a 'protest' of toilets.
I was told by people familiar with the area, that the toilet collection has grown. And there are flowers (not sure if real or fake) in every, uh, pot.
There are levels of toilets. Upper deck and lower deck...so to speak. I also saw some for-sale signs on the property. Had to pull in quickly to turn around and get back on my way. But not knowing the address and having just rumors to go by, I went to Google. I thought it was fascinating that this house showed up, not because of all the toilets - but as Uncle Donald's Pig Farm. Roadside America has featured it but showed it closed as of 2015. The farm apparently at one time had a pink VW Bus that looked like a pig, and little plastic cars that were also pink and also had a nose. That VW Bus is still there!
When I zoomed in on the picture, you could still see the distinctive pig nose in the front of the VW Bus and I think those are broken down little pink plastic cars surrounding it.
What is the story behind this place? Are the toilets a protest? If so, it's so perfectly Maine and I love it! But I'm also sad because Uncle Donald's Farm seems kinda sweet and cute. What happened?
